General Subscription Questions
You can make some changes in your customer portal. Log in on the website and click on the Subscriptions link near the top of the page.
You CAN:
- Update your payment information
- Update your delivery address (in your customer profile, not in the subscriptions area) - please email or call us if you are making this change between a payment being made and the order shipping so that we confirm it's updated on the current order as well.
- Pause a subscription
- Skip one or more subscriptions
- Cancel a subscription
You CANNOT
- Adjust the product choice/quantity
- Add additional subscription products
- Add one-time-only purchases to your order
- Change the payment date
- Switch between shipping and pickup
- If you need to make a permanent change, you'll need to cancel and restart your subscription when it reopens to new subscribers
- If you will be switching back and forth between pickup/delivery, you may want to set up subscriptions for each option, and pause or skip as needed
The charge for the first subscription will occur at the time the order is placed; after that the payment will be automatically charged on the same day of the following month according to the frequency chosen. For example, if you place your first order on March 8th, and choose to receive a new order every three months, your next payment will be June 8th.
The order will then be shipped out or marked as ready for local pickup on our next business day, Monday through Friday.
While we will do our best to ensure your product is in stock, there may be times when we are out of stock, and we will inform you as soon as possible.
Please note that 3 days before the next payment comes out, subscribers will receive an email, alerting them to the charge so they have plenty of time to change quantities, update the shipping address, update payment info, or skip/pause/cancel the order.
Note: yarn subscriptions are a bit different, more details can be seen further down the page.
We CAN:
- Change product quantities in your subscription
- Change your subscription to add additional subscription products, such as Soak or a different yarn base (within the same subscription product) to your subscription
- Permanently remove yarn bases other subscription products (like Soak) from your subscription
- Pause or cancel your subscription
- Send a link to you to update your payment info
We CANNOT:
- Add one-time-only purchases to your next order (although we can combine shipping, if you let us know ahead of time)
- Pause just 1 of the products in your order if you have multiple products ordered
- Update your payment info for you
- Resume a cancelled subscription
- Change the payment date
Skip: Your next order will be skipped, orders will resume after that on the regular subscription schedule. We will cancel* skipped subscriptions that have missed three or more subscription cycles.
Pause: Your subscription will be paused until you restart it. We will cancel* paused subscriptions that have missed three or more subscription cycles.
Cancel: Your subscription will be stopped entirely and cannot be reactivated. You would need to resubscribe to start receiving the subscription again. If you are canceling after a payment has been made, but before the product is shipped/ready for pick up, that order will not be cancelled and refunded - it will only affect the subscription for future cycles.
*We will not cancel if extenuating circumstances exist, such as snowbirds who may have separate subscriptions set up with different shipping requirements for 2 residences, or duplicate subscriptions where different bases are shown each month. Please let us know if that is the case.
You cannot add products to the subscription order. You will need to place a separate order.
If picking up at the store: Just submit another order and we will hold them together for pickup.
If shipping: Let us know before you place your order, and we can create an order that will ship all of the items together. If you've already placed an order, just let us know before you get your shipping notice, and we will hold the order and combine shipping, refunding any difference. We cannot combine shipped orders once a tracking number has been created.
Unfortunately, due to restrictions in the apps we use to run our subscriptions and rewards programs, discount codes generated from the rewards program cannot be used for subscriptions. If you would like, we can manually deduct the rewards points and give you a discount code that will work for your first subscription order, just let us know before submitting your order (recurring payments cannot have discount codes applied).
You are able to make a one-time change from local pickup to delivery, however you cannot make the change from shipping to local pickup. If you need to make a permanent change, you'll need to cancel and restart your subscription when it reopens to new subscribers. If you will be switching back and forth between pickup/delivery, you may want to set up subscriptions for each option, and pause or skip as needed.
No, these changes are not possible.
Payment information can be made in your account, select Subscriptions near the top left, then for each subscription you want to update, select "View subscription details", then click on get little pencil icon just above your card information. Select the card you need to make a change to, click on the "Edit" link, then make any necessary changes.
Yarn Subscription Questions
New subscriptions will open on the 1st- 4th of the month before the product is ready to be shipped.
The charge for the first subscription will occur at the time the order is placed; after that the payment will be automatically charged on the same day of the month, 4 months later. So a charge for a new subscription on January 3 will be automatically charged on May 3.
Orders will be dyed and prepared for delivery and pickup over the next ~4 weeks. Orders will be ready for shipment/pickup between the 1st and 7th of the next month. Normally they are ready on the 1st, unless we are closed, and occasionally we can be delayed if a vendor show has us out of town and our store staff is unfamiliar with processing subscription orders.

As an example, let's look at a subscription that ships in January:
- December 1 -4 - payment charged, no changes can be made for January subscription after payment made.
- December 1 - 4 - subscriptions open to new subscribers, if space available.
- January 1 - 7 - order will ship or be ready for local pick up at shop (after notification sent).

Yes! Each order is treated as a separate subscription, so here are some things you might want to consider for how you want your subscription to be set up:
- if you always want a particular combination, such as 1 sock, 1 sport, and 1 worsted, then add 1 of each base to your order. Each subscription cycle, you will receive 1 of each.
- If you want the subscription on sock this time, and then switch to sport next time, you can either:
- Order sock this time, and sport next time, pausing the sock subscription until you want it again. These will be treated as multiple subscriptions.
- Order sock this time, then ask us to change the order to sport (before payment has gone through).
When asked about this in a survey, just over half of the respondents wanted to see inspiration photos/palettes, while about 30% wanted to see the actual colourway, and just under 20% wanted a total surprise. We decided that the best way to handle this would be to provide a link to the palette, and a separate link to the actual colourway. Currently, there are 120 skeins (combined total) of Barbury Sock, Fosbury Sport, and Fosbury Worsted available for each subscription. We only dye enough to fulfill the orders received. If you are trying to order one base that is sold out, but there is enough quantity on another base, order the other base and ask us to adjust the order.
All subscription colourways will be exclusive for aminimumof 6 months after shipping. After 6 months have passed, they may become part of our regular lineup at some point in the future, they may be made exclusively for wholesale accounts (which may be on different bases), or they may appear in kits like countdown calendars or in swag bag prizes at vendor shows. Some colourways will only ever be available once!
Unfortunately, we won’t have extra stock on hand, so you will need to wait to see if the product becomes available as part of our regular line up. New product announcements are always available first to newsletter subscribers, who get an early peek and chance to buy on Shop Update days.
Not necessarily, because there may be times that the 1st falls on a day that we are closed (either due to our normal business hours, holidays, or because we are at an event - not all of our staff is able to handle subscription orders). You will receive an email when your order is ready for pickup, at which time you can come in during our regular business hours.
The subscriptions are set up so that you can pick and choose which ones have the colour tones that are the most appealing to you, instead of setting up a full year as the only option, which will likely have higher fluctuations of people opting in or out for that month based on the colours. If you want to subscribe to more than one colour tone option, please feel free to do so when the next one of that kind opens!
Because there is a window when yarn subscriptions are open to order, there are actually 2 yarn subscription product pages for each product. If you are not a current yarn subscriber, then one product page is active whenever the product is NOT open to new subscriptions, and is up for information purposes only. It does not have any stock, and never will.When the subscription opens up to new subscribers, the information-only page is hidden from the 1st to the 4th of the month, and the product page where you can actually place an order is unhidden. On the 5th of the month, it will be hidden again, and the information-only page will be unhidden, until the next time the subscription opens.The information-only page will include “Yarn Subscription Information” in the title.
Yarn subscriptions are treated the same way as a custom order is, and because we may not be carrying that colourway again, we can't accept returns or exchanges, unless there is a product defect.
